Boiler & Pressure Vessel Engineer

A Boiler & Pressure Vessel (BPV) Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, inspection, and safety of boilers, pressure vessels, and related equipment in various industries. Boilers and pressure vessels are used in power plants, manufacturing facilities, refineries, and other settings to generate steam, store fluids under pressure, and perform various industrial processes. BPV Engineers play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of these critical equipment.

  1. Design and Engineering: Designing and engineering boilers and pressure vessels to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. This includes selecting appropriate materials, calculating load and stress analysis, and ensuring compliance with codes such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

  2. Safety Compliance: Ensuring that all boilers and pressure vessels comply with safety standards and codes, such as ASME, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and relevant local regulations.

  3. Inspection and Testing: Conducting regular inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) of boilers and pressure vessels to assess their integrity, identify defects, and determine the need for maintenance or repair.

  4. Maintenance and Repairs: Developing maintenance schedules and overseeing repair and maintenance activities to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

  5. Risk Assessment: Conducting risk assessments and evaluating potential hazards associated with boilers and pressure vessels. Implementing measures to mitigate risks and improve safety.

  6. Operation and Troubleshooting: Overseeing the operation of boilers and pressure vessels and troubleshooting any issues that may arise during operation.

  7. Fitness for Service (FFS) Assessment: Evaluating the fitness for service of boilers and pressure vessels to determine if they are suitable for continued operation or require repair or replacement.

  8. Emergency Response Planning: Developing emergency response plans for potential accidents or equipment failures to protect personnel and the surrounding environment.

  9. Code Compliance Review: Reviewing and approving boiler and pressure vessel designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Obtaining necessary permits and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing the operation and maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels.
